Editorial Design
Magazine Design | Book Design | Catalog Design | Advertising Design | Production Design | Art Direction
Before moving to Canada, I worked in publishing in Dubai for 11 years, followed by 3 years in advertising. During my time in publishing, I was responsible for designing magazines, books, annual guides, and print ads — most of them trade publications that weren’t sold in stores but mailed directly to industry professionals. It was a fast-paced, resourceful environment where I had to wear many hats. I was often tasked with designing the look and feel of new magazines and guides from scratch, and because there wasn’t always a budget for photoshoots or a dedicated production team, I had to step in — retouching, illustrating, and prepping files for print myself. That experience sharpened not just my design skills, but also my ability to solve problems creatively and work independently.
All of that came in handy when I moved to Canada. I was able to jump into agency work right away, contributing to projects that required editorial design experience — like annual reports, brand guidelines, or anything with a lot of text. No extra training needed. It’s a skillset I still lean on today whenever structure, clarity, and thoughtful design are required.
